What is a dream? A dream is a desire,
a compelling need to achieve something. When
action happens dreams become something
infinitely more, something that is tangible. Most people
live most of their lives seeing their dreams as wisps of smoke
that delicately float away. Most people will dismiss these dreams
the minute they materialize.
When we first met Mark and Bethany Smith we knew exactly what
their dream was. The dream was a professional theatre. In late Fall 2006 it happened.
They had built a theatre. Seeing the large pieces of steel framing I couldn't
visualize what it would look like. But I knew they could. They were going to
make it happen no matter what.
When it finally came our turn to put our hands on the project we were asked
for our help in color schemes. We also helped with small pieces of the decor.
It is important to note that we didn't help design the space. We helped to flesh out
what Mark and Bethany wanted to make real. Then it finally came the day when
we were called in to help with the Proscenium. The Proscenium (The framing
element) was designed before this point by David Utley. We helped out with
some of the conception and worked hand in hand with David to bring this
to fruition. The entire piece was created using extensive amounts of metallic paints.
These paints shimmer and shine when light is cast upon them. Truly a wonderful sight.
The next part of the project that we worked on was the ceiling medallion. Aubern gold
and silver leafed the medallion herself, using centuries old process, The medallion was first
painted red then it was slowly leafed by hand. What results is something amazing and
befitting the grand crystal chandelier that adorns this lobby.
Finally the last part is the stenciling. Around the trey of the chandelier we stenciled
using gold metallic plaster. And to add interest we also stenciled the rest of the lobby
with a transparent gold that appears as you move around the room.
Truly this project was one of a kind. The best satisfaction we can give is that we helped
Mark and Bethany bring this wisp of smoke into a real structure that you can see, touch, and feel.
